The following topics are covered in this article:

Who Needs BLS Certification?

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a must-have for a variety of professionals who are expected to respond swiftly during medical emergencies. At HealthForce Training Center, our BLS classes in New Jersey are designed not only for healthcare providers but also for other professionals in fields where the safety of others is critical.

Our BLS courses are perfect for:

  • Physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals who need to act quickly in emergencies like cardiac arrest or airway obstructions.

  • Paramedics and EMTs, who are often first on the scene during life-threatening situations.

  • Medical students, nursing students, and other allied health personnel, such as respiratory therapists and physical therapists, who need BLS training as part of their curriculum.

  • Non-medical professionals such as lifeguards, sports instructors, and security personnel—all of whom must be prepared to respond in case of emergencies in their daily roles.

One of the things that sets HealthForce apart is the hands-on approach and the use of high-quality equipment during training. As Viola A., a participant from our Mountainside, NJ location, shares, “Great instructor. Very knowledgeable and cares that you learn the information well. High-quality equipment for training too. Highly recommend!”

Our BLS certification is designed for both beginners and those renewing their certification. Jillian T. from our Livingston, NJ location found it perfect for busy professionals, stating, “Quick and efficient course to get my BLS certification for healthcare workers.”

Whether you're looking to refresh your skills or earn your first certification, we ensure the training is both thorough and efficient. As Ernesto D. from Jersey City, NJ noted, “Fastest BLS/ACLS class I’ve had. Our instructor Lorenzo was the best. He was very clear and concise and direct to the point on the things that mattered most with regards to the covered topics."

BLS Certification Process

At HealthForce Training Center, we offer a flexible and comprehensive BLS certification process to ensure that healthcare professionals are fully equipped to handle emergencies. Our BLS classes in New Jersey are designed to suit both new learners and those renewing their certification, with options for in-person and blended learning formats.

Course Duration and Format

Our in-person BLS course typically takes about 4 hours to complete. For those needing flexibility, we also offer a blended learning option through the American Heart Association (AHA). With HeartCode® BLS, students can complete the online portion at their own pace before attending an in-person skills session at one of our training centers.

Blended Learning Process

STEP 1: Complete the AHA HeartCode® BLS Online Course

The HeartCode® BLS online course includes interactive lessons, eSimulations, animations, and case-based scenarios to teach students the essentials of Basic Life Support. Students learn at their own pace, with the ability to choose between in-facility or prehospital tracks, making the course highly relevant to their professional setting. This self-directed format also includes an online exam that must be passed with a score of 84% or higher.

STEP 2: Schedule a Skills Check and Hands-on Session

Once the online portion is completed, students schedule an appointment for a skills check at HealthForce Training Center. In this instructor-led session, participants practice life-saving skills, participate in team-based scenarios, and are tested on CPR techniques, AED use, and airway obstruction management.

STEP 3: Receive Your Certification eCard

After successfully passing the hands-on skills test, students receive their BLS certification eCard, issued directly from the American Heart Association. This certification is valid for two years.

As part of this process, participants engage in 10 online modules, including 5 eSimulations and 2 video tutorials, covering various emergency scenarios such as two-rescuer adult BLS and one-rescuer infant BLS.

What You Will Learn

The BLS course covers critical skills needed in both prehospital and in-facility settings:

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • Using an AED effectively and efficiently

  • Bag-valve-mask ventilation techniques

  • Two-rescuer CPR

  • Foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) response

  • Team-based resuscitation skills for multirescuer scenarios

Hands-On Training with State-of-the-Art Equipment

Our instructors use the latest technology and high-quality equipment to provide realistic, hands-on training. As Anna S. from our Bergenfield, NJ location noted, “Great teachers, effective hands-on education!” This combination of online learning and practical experience ensures you’re fully prepared for real-world emergencies.

Certification and Renewal

At the end of the course, you’ll receive a BLS certification that is valid for two years. If you need to renew your certification, HealthForce also offers BLS renewal courses that follow the same high standards, ensuring your skills stay up to date.

Beyond healthcare settings, lifeguards, fitness instructors, security personnel, and childcare providers all benefit from having BLS training to protect those under their care.

HealthForce’s BLS classes prepare you for real-world emergencies, including adult, child, and infant resuscitation techniques. You’ll learn how to operate an AED, perform CPR, and collaborate with a team during critical moments.
